#PostcardsforMacron

Dplu4HBXUAYNq4JAn interesting movement on Twitter has been triggered by the arrogant and ignorant comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron. Speaking about fertility rates in Africa at a Gates Foundation Conference in New York City, Macron sarcastically said, “Present me the woman who decided, being perfectly educated, to have seven, eight or nine children.”

In response, Dr. Catherine R. Pakaluk, a professor at the Catholic University of America, started the hashtag #PostcardsforMacron on Twitter and shared a photo of herself and six of her eight children.  Pakaluk has a PhD from Harvard and is also step-mom to several more children since she married a widower.

Pakaluk’s hashtag has generated hundreds of other posts with the descriptions and photos of educated and accomplished moms with their beautiful families. In fact, it is just wonderful to scroll through all the beautiful pictures and descriptions that defy Macron’s ill-spoken comments.

Within the Holy Family community of families, there are scores of truly educated moms that have been blessed with many children. And for many the blessings are still coming!

As much fun as the #PostcardsforMacron hashtag has been, Macron’s comments were really about African women with little or no access to education. But even in this context, Macron’s attitude simply won’t allow for a culture that values children and large families.

In the end, it’s not about degrees or formal schooling. It’s about seeing through liberal lies and political correctness and being honest about true human flourishing, God’s plan for marriage and family and the inestimable blessings of children.
